Does anyone mix Glycerin with hair conditioner as a preshave?
I have been adding 7 drops to my lather bowl and dripping lather from my shaving brush/mug on top of it before bowl lathering. The benefits gained for me are evident while using my straight razors. I get better glide (no sticking or chatter) and the lather does not dry out on my face as quickly. These attributes are important while using a straight where I shave more slowly than while using a DE and the glycerine helps me avoid cuts from the razor catching on my face. Glycerine is not so important while DE shaving, but it does not harm the shave quality in any way.
I noticed a big difference as soon as I started using glycerin a few months ago.

Try adding a few drops of glycerin to a combination of shaving soap and shaving cream for a Uberlather. That's what I do.
Uberlather isn't for everyday, but provides a very luxurious weekend shave.
I just ordered a bottle since I cant find any local.... I am interested to see the results once it comes in. Even though the proraso cream is glycerin based, I think the hard water here in CO just seems to fight it, but we shall see!
I use on teaspoon every time I shave and coat my face with it prior to using shave soap.
okay there is way to many saying this is good not too try this. I will pick some up tommorow to add to my soaps :)
As others have mentioned, glycerin makes the lather slicker and for me also protects the skin.
I've only been straight shaving for about two months now, so technique has room (a lifetime) for improvement, but I'm findin' glycerin to crank up my lather like nothing else, and while it don't give as much glide as a shaving oil, it is an improvement on just water. I reckon as technique (both with building lather and shaving) improve I may need it less and less, but for now, it's just like cooking with wine=
A little for me
A little for the project at hand.
Go on and get yourself some.
