We try to avoid Dimethicone to our soaps/creams and you will use it in your face?
After long time of use you will have problems with the "pores" of your skin.

I'm weighing in way late on this thread, but I've found that adding 10 drops of glycerin to my Ogallala Bay Rum soap make the best lather of any I have tried. I have Proraso, Cella, Razorock, St Charles and several Mama Bears. They are all good, but the OBR/glycerin combo is the best (for me).
Shave on.
glycerin is great and cheap thing, I was using for my hands long time ago when work in canada, and had problem with skin on my hands (cold)
I usually add a few drops of liquid glycerin to my mug every now and again when mixing up a lather. IMHO it makes a world of difference to my skin and to the smoothness of my shave
I too use sometimes glycerin in my lather, what you would usually call überlather and I love it: it really makes a difference, at least to me. Not only a smoother, compact and richer lather, but also a good protection for the skin.
When I make überlather I usually go beyond that and, besides 8-10 drops of glycerin, I also add 8-10 drops of Extravirgin Olive Oil and I find this to give an incredible super smooth and rich lather. A joy for the skin, a joy to brush!
drops.... recall that soap helps clean oil from the skin.
When in doubt use an inexpensive brush.... Perhaps
an "Omega Professional, Art. 10098"
When tinkering finish with a sacrificial brush cleaning lather using
a puck of Williams or equivalent then rinse well.
I am not a EVOO man but I am willing to tinker as long
as I can contain the cost. I would not recommend some
tinkering with a fine silvertip. The Omega above was a recent
discovery and has eclipsed my previous budge VDH boar brush
recommendation. It is a first class boar brush and for the price
it is hard to beat.
