Preshave with 3 in One Oil???
I was perusing the razors on ebay and came across this. Beyond what I would consider one of the many proper uses, it goes on to say "Many clean faced men rub 3-in-One oil on their faces before lathering. It softens the stiffest beard."
While I am not going to give this a try I did find it interesting.

Interesting, I suppose back 1924 the stuff was promoted to be okay to use on your face contrary to the fact the main ingredients are naptha and petroleum. In 1924, they didn't have such concerns about products and ingredients like we do now. According the MDS, it states that it will irritate skin and one should keep it away from the mucous membranes and eyes.
During one time in history, smoking was considered to be healthy. "More doctors smoke Camel than any other brand."

The naptha in the oil is this according to Wikipedia:
"Naphtha normally refers to a number of different flammable liquid mixtures of hydrocarbons, i.e., a component of natural gas condensate or a distillation product from petroleum, coal tar or peat boiling in a certain range and containing certain hydrocarbons. It is a broad term covering among the lightest and most volatile fractions of the liquid hydrocarbons in petroleum. Naphtha is a colorless to reddish-brown volatile aromatic liquid, very similar to gasoline."

I prefer WD-40. Helps soften the wiskers and protect the blade all at the same time.
