Reapply Oil when Re-Lathering?

Quick question for those who use shaving oil.

I prep with oil before I lather up, do the first pass and then rinse/lather before the second pass. I'm wondering whether it would be appropriate to reapply oil before lathering the second time or would that be redundant?

I also use olive oil and I never have found it necessary to reapply before a second or even a third pass. Some question whether or not the oil will diminish the effect of a brush. For me the oil is worked into the lather and does no harm to any brush that I have used. Granted there is a slight feeling of the remaining oil on my face as I finish shaving, but, for me, that is what I want. I don't want my face all dried out. And the oil sort of acts as an additional cushion when combine with the lather.

Sometimes I can reapply one or two drops before the third pass. I'f I'm on for a fourth, I reapply for sure.

I use Shave Secret for my oil.Its a small little bottle you can pick up for about $1.25 at Wally World.At 5 drops per shave it lasts a really long time.I rub it on my face before my first lather and have made 2 and 3 passes with only one oil application.I had to shave only every other day before i started using it because of irritation(and poor technique),now i shave twice daily a few times a week.Once in the morning,and again if im going over to see my girl that evening.So your only looking at 10-12 hours between shaves.Very pleased with it,and glad that it can be bought local,too.

My routine is not quite as stylish and sophisticated as yours.

- apply a hot linen towel to the face
- apply I Coloniali Soothing Aftershave Emulsion
- Lather: I-Coloniali Mango
- Brush: a German no-name brush made of badger silver tips mounted in Argentinean buffalo horn
- Razor: I admit, a very un-classy Mach 3 - my attempts with a Merkur ended up too bloody
- cleaning with the linen towel
- apply I-Coloniali after shave emulsion.

I use oil on the first pass, sometimes I re-apply for the second. I also make my own shave oil from Olive oil, almond oil, grape seed oil and castor oil. There is no right or wrong way to make shave oil. I experimented and found the combinations/percentages I like.

I've read using pre shave oil on a daily basis has a cumulative effect. When I start, I apply a hot towel to my face for about 30 seconds or so, opens up the pores. I remove it and apply pre shave oil. While that's happening, water's heating up in the microwave for my scuttle, 4 cups x 3 mins, perfect. This gives the oil time to soak in, or condition your face a bit. Then I start building lather, etc...I only use pre shave oil that one time.

I don't like oils, I use Proraso Pre-Shave cream. I've started also applying it before the second pass. I think, "why not?" If the role of the pre-shave cream is to allow the razor to glide over the skin and to soften the beard, then it's valid to apply it before the second and third pass. I've also started to mix Proraso Pre-shave cream with 'Sukin' natural facial moisturiser cream.

The other day, in the car, my daughter told me I should look after my skin more. I think she forgot who she was talking to. I said, "Bianca, how do you know what I do, actually, I'm quite obsessive about my skin care" and proceeded to outline my routine, to the tiniest detail. About 1/2 way through she turned to her mother and said "he's serious, isn't he?"...

I use shave cream in the shower to soften my whiskers as well. I am always open to new ideas on how to protect my skin and soften my whiskers.
