Barbasol is an inexpensive and effectice pre-shave for me.

But I do not shave with it. I just leave in on while going through my SR prep.

I rinse it off then apply a palm full of glycerin directly to my face followed by my favorite soap or cream.

I wonder what the cold-water shavers think of this beard-softening technique

I'm going to have to try this. I have an old can of Barbasol that I've had since I began wet shaving three years ago. I thought for sure that my wife would use it, but even she doesn't like it. If it will work as a good pre-shave prep, then I'll use it. I'll report back after giving it a try.

I've used Barbasol (actually another brand of foam, but close enough), and it does work pretty well. the downside for me was that it started to burn a bit, and just felt so nasty on my skin after being used to decent creams and soaps. Still, it is dirt cheap, and works pretty well, if you don't mind the downsides.

Tried it and I wasn't a fan. I mean it did the trick my whiskers were as soft as any preshave cream but... I hate the smell, like the warm lather and felt like I was just dumping chemicals on my face. In essence I'm spoiled and I can't go back not even if it's only for a preshave.

Try just hair conditioner, works wonders, Barbersol sucks IMHO.

The new Pacific Rush Barbasol smells great and costs the same as regular. I also do not like the smell of the regular brand.

I get great shaves using Barbasol, and I use hair conditioner to prep often... never combined the two though. I only use Barbasol when I travel so I'll have to pick up a can somewhere to find out if this combo has any advantages.

Barbasol is a fine prep. I even whip it up with my favorite non-lathering shave cream to make a fantastic lather. I know it's not in style, but it does many jobs - just not so much as the main lather when straight razor shaving.

Now I've been told that the barbasol with all of the super properties(medical bed sores etc) is the Cream and not the aerosol can one. Never checked. Any one out there familiar with the one that should be used?
