Thanked: 0Pre-Shave Soaps
I thought it would be fun to share thoughts on pre-shave soaps/rituals.
My go-to is the Fitjar Nyasha Black Soap for a pre-shave soap. I like it, it seems to do a good job. Can be a pain to find, and is a little pricey, but the little bar has lasted a long time.
After lathering in a bowl and applying the lather to my face and neck, I like to place a hot steamy towel on my face and neck for about a minute or so. That seems to do a good job of standing the whiskers up and also serves well enough to remove most of it so I have a fresh slate for the actual shave soap.
So I hope to hear others chime in on what they are doing.

Thanked: 498I'm a Musgo Glyce Lime Oil Soap fan. Its got a great citrus smell and has a touch of alcohol in it to clean the pores out. Very mild as well. Its been my daily pre-shave ritual for years.

Thanked: 1I usually don't use anything beyond a hot shower. I tried preshave oils but that was when I used multi-blade razors. The Art of Shaving has a gel, http://demandware.edgesuite.net/sits...w=1200&sh=1200 that I tested and really liked.

Thanked: 0I second the hot shower. I actually just changed the shower head in my bathroom, and boy talk about about better flow!!!
There is one of those Art of Shaving stores opening near me soon, I will have to check that gel out.
Have not tried the Musgo Glyce Lime Oil Soap, sounds nice though, will be on the lookout.
And for a long time I had used whatever the bath soap was. A buddy way back in high school recommended using whatever soap you have that doesn't dry you out with as hot of water as you were comfortable with. I thought it made for a better shave than without.
Thanks for all the reply's!!

I've recently been washing my face with a glycerin soap as a pre-shave routine. It has helped keep my face slick before applying the lather. So far I have had good results with the Neutrogena facial cleaning bar and Clearly Natural pure glycerin soap. I hold a hot towel on my face for a few minutes, then wash with the soap, apply a bit of water on my face to rinse the soap suds away but still leave the slick soap on my face, then I apply the shave cream lather.
I've heard good things about the Musgo Real Glycerin Lime Oil Soap. I haven't tried it, but it's on my list. You can take the boy out of NY, but you can't take NY out of the boy.

Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap. Specifically, I'm using the Rose Hemp Pure-Castile Soap. This is one nice soap. Hard but lathers incredibly well, smooth, nice scent, easy on the skin, cleans up well, inexpensive. Really a great soap to start off your ritual. No you can't smoke it.
