Shelf life of preshave oils?

Hello all,

I have a bottle of T&S preshave oil that i've used for 3 months and only depleted by about 1/3, and just to compare another version, I recently bought a bottle of the AoS oil. Considering these products are sometimes a combination of mostly olive and castor oils (which have shelf-lives, 6 months or so in the kitchen in the case of olive oil), do these oils have one as well? Has anyone heard of these products 'going bad'?

Though I can't say for certain, I've never heard of a preshave oil going bad. Many brands, especially the English ones, will mark their products with a so-called expiry date. It will typically look like a jar with a half opened lid followed by the number of months it will supposedly last, ex - 12M, 18M etc. IMO these best before dates are BS. I have many products that are well past those dates, and show no ill effects whatsoever.

I've had a bottle of T&H for over 2yrs and it's still fine. Hope this helps you a little.

+1 to that. I have some shave creams, soaps and pre shave oils several years old that are just as good as the day I bought them. As a matter of fact, I used Castle Forbes Cedarwood and Sandalwood last night. It has to be at least four years old.

Keep them in a cool dark place to extend the shelf life. You shouldn't have any problems with a shave oil lasting a few years if it is from a company that knows what they are doing.
