How much glycerin?
I was told that adding glycerin to my cream will make an uber lather.
How much glycerin?
Thanks

Thanked: 13245Not quite...
Superlather = Cream + Soap
Überlather = Cream + Soap + About 5 drops of Glycerin
You need to experiment with the recipes, some are exceptional some are good and some are just so-so
Myself and a few others have found that one of the best is the "Lanolin Overload" Überlather
Mitchell's Woolfat Soap
Musgo Real Cream
Glycerin
If you search Uberlather and Überlather you will find tons of recipes and references to making it

Will the glycerin increase the lather of the cream on its own?

Thanked: 13245Hmmmm, Honestly I never tried that, The glycerin seems to improve the hydration of the lather, and the feel on the face, it doesn't really do much to increase the amount or volume of the lather...
Most creams and soaps have glycerin in there anyway, what cream are you working with ????

Throw some in and experiment !
It's fun - let us know how it works out. I find two to three drops is all "I" want - YMMV - and that's the best part lol - no rules!!David

I plan to experiment.
The wife has indulged me for my birthday. New soup/shaving mug, new stop (not extra wide :-(. ) and the worlds amount of pre shave oil, shaving cream of both varieties and aftershave balm/moisturiser. Litterally enough to last a year :-) and my new razor was dropped off at a very old fashioned barbers in my home city to be honed ( I was surprised that she'd apparently forgotten my gift when I could eventually play with it )
Updates to follow

use the soap and cream you have, mix and try.
Sometimes you will be surprised by the combination of different scents together.
And sometimes you think iekkkk smeel like shit, but the lather (Uber) is ok.
matter of trying.
In my view, a few drop of glycerin is the little bit extra whipped cream

Thanked: 1I use VDH Deluxe (the one without the glycerin) and add about 3 drops of glycerin to it. Just starting out and trying to take somewhat of a minimalist approach so I went with the least expensive soap I could find. A bottle of vegetable glycerin is pretty cheap as well and has multiple uses around the kitchen, so it won't hurt to give it a shot. I think it gives a little more glide and leaves the skin less irritated, when you wash up you can feel how slick your face is from the added glycerin.

I use a "nickel-size" after washing my face above the jaw line and another nickel-size below the jawline as a pre-shave. I do this after I've built lather so I can immediately apply the lather after the glycerin. It works very well softening the whiskers and in my opinion it also protects the skin. Before glycerin I used Proraso Pre as a pre-shave.
