I use conditioner on my face & head, works well.

No need to use a hot towel if you jump from the shower to a shave...but there are no rules saying you can't.

You can strop your razor whenever you want, a strop is a razor's friend. Just remember to strop after the shave to clean up the edge, just wiping it isn't enough.
