You could jump right to shaving but without prep you will find it more difficult to get a close shave and easier to get a cut or nick or rash. I compare it to running. You can start out running without a warm up but you increase the chance of injury and your performance can also be suboptimal. Now some of us, including me, probably do more prep than necessary because we enjoy it. No harm in that!
PS: The best thing you can do before a shave is to make sure that your razor is properly honed and stropped. Without that any other thing you may do is pretty much a waste of time and money.Last edited by 1holegrouper; 04-30-2013 at 08:03 PM. Reason: PS
