Lathering Up
Silly question but...
When I first lather up, I take my time with the brush. I load it up and I really work the lather into my stubble before that first pass. However, do you spend equal amount of time on subsequent passes and the lather before them? I find that the lack of stubble makes it feel like I'm pretty much just sliding lather around. I mean it feels like I probably don't have to spend the same amount of time as that first brushing... Thoughts?

I general dip the tips and work the brush just long enough to re-fluff (if you will) the lather.
I thin it out a bit on the second and third (if I am doing three) pass.
This is just what works for me.Last edited by pfries; 04-22-2013 at 12:28 PM.

For the second and the third pass lathering should require less time.

Once the brush is loaded and lather produced I have enough for multiple passes so I never have to go back to the soap bowl again. As far as applying the lather I don't think I ever spend more than 20 seconds doing that so re-lathering is the same 20 seconds but actually I shave my face in sections so I re-lather those sections as I go and do more passes.

I generally use less time on follow up lathers. Some like to thin out the second and third lathers, but I like to keep mine consistent.

Once the lather is prepared, it shouldn't need to be reworked. Though I recommend folks be careful when rinsing because too much water on the face will dilute an already reduced supply of lather. If you are going to do an ATG pass, you'll want your lather as strong on this pass as it was on the first.
I prefer to not splash rinse between passes. Instead I just dip my hands, rub them together to reduce the water and then just give my face a wipe with my hands. Some software will actually revive on your skin with just your hands. Not enough for a full pass mind you, but for minor touch-ups.

I usually work it in significantly less on subsequent passes. I work it in a little but mostly paint on any passes after my first.

Thanked: 4I agree I tend to work it in for a solid minute or more on the first pass, but i also partially face lather for fine tuning the lather. the second pass I don't work in for more than 15 seconds even though I tend to add a touch of water to the brush to pump up the lather.

First pass, I spend a good two or three minutes, for the subsequent passes, I just paint it on and shave.
