    Default Baby oil

I'm a noob and out of total curiosity was wondering if baby oil could be used as a pre shave oil?

It probably has been, but I don't want something that oily on my face,,, not for me, but give it a try.

Grapeseed oil is just as available, fairly cheap and won't clog your pores

I don't know about baby oil but I use extra virgin olive oil both as a pre and post shave and it works absolutely amazing.
I also use sometimes argan oil and it too works very well.
Using olive oil has been very common in the past as a post shave treatment in my region and it was my grandfather to teach me how to use it right. To me the very best pre and post shave treatment I can give to my skin.
However it is a matter of quantity and you usually need few drops to get great results.

There are better choices for a pre shave oil. Below is a link to badger and blade pre shave oil recommendations

Olive oil is in fact listed among the best oils which can be used for shaving. It is highly compatible with skin. Our grandfathers knew that and were right!

    One2mny,

It would seem that most persons that use oils as a pre-shave use natural oils - olive, jojoba, grape-seed etc.

These work easily into the lather when you apply it.

If you like, you can add said oils to the lather when you make it up - it is the equivalent of over-fatting the soaps in the shaving soap/cream.

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

I am one of those who adds oil - olive oil - to my uberlather when I feel like making it. The result is amazing.

Baby oil works great if you don't mind the perfume. Straight up mineral oil is good if not. I tend to not bother with the "oh no you wouldn't rub crude oil on your face LOL" anti-mineral-oil folks.

Makes me wonder what toll if any these oils have on a brush long term.
