I too sometimes do that when I don't have the time for a shower and I am in a hurry.
Anyway, cold water is mandatory at the end of shaving and before any post or after shave treatment.

I keep things simple and like my face to be clean and free of any gunk before shaving. A good face wash or scrub and then the shave soap with a hot towel and then I'm ready to go.

Glad your first DE shave went well. Mine was not pleasant, haha. I used one of the worst combinations a newb could....a Merkur Slantbar loaded with a Feather blade. I still use and love the Slant...cleans me up as well as a straight.
