The quest for the scent
I usually don't wear after shave or cologne but with my new habits and hobby it seems appropriate to begin. It would be great if there were a place where you could check out all of the fragrances that spark our interest but to this date i have not found that place.
I think step one for me is to order Penhaligon's Gentelmans Fragrance Collection from our local retailer. This brand sounds like something that i may like so it's a place to start.
I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for any other samplers or particular options that i may pursue. ThxThe value and interest of life is not so much to do conspicuous things.........as to do ordinary things with the perception of their enormous value.

I have been wondering about this also. Living quite a distance from a major city my choices are limited and I don't want to spend money on something I have not sampled. I have heard that some companies will send you samples if you write them a letter or email.

Thanked: 603I have 8 different bottles of Eau du Cologne, 37 of Eau du Toilette, and 10 of Eau du Parfum. I do not recommend that you "go forth and acquire" similar quantities, in one fell-swoop.
What I do suggest, is this:
- If you are married, take your wife
- If you have a "steady girlfriend" (and are not married!)
Take her with you to a few high-end department stores (Macy's, Neiman-Marcus, Lord & Taylor, etc.) and/or some brick-and-mortar perfume shops, and sample, sample, sample. Find a few -- in your price range -- that both of you like, and buy 'em. Voila!
Along with this strategy, I suggest that you read-up on "after-scents". Believe me, it's an education; history, vocabulary, techniques -- and I have found that knowing adds to my enjoyment in wearing. A good place to start is Basenotes.
I might also mention finding a few after-scents that "match" one-or-more of your shaving soaps/creams (it's another good strategy for getting SWMBO's approval).
Smooth shaving!

JB has given you some great advice. If you've tried some Truefitt & Hill soaps/creams and like their scents, I know SRD sells their aftershaves and colognes of the same scents, although they're (T&F that is) a tad pricey for my wallet, but you can sample Clubman and bayrum aftershaves for a fraction of the cost.

Was hoping to get a little feedback on the Pendhaligon line of products. I know many have used various scents from this manufacturer. Any particular scent that stands out?
