    Default Ogallala vs WM Neumann

I have the sample aftershave packs from Ogallala and WM Neumann on their way! I'll give my appraisal on the scents once they arrive. I figure it'll be a good indicator of their soaps for once I switch over to straight shaving.

The Neumann's sampler came in today. It had a bar of their peppermint leaf bar soap. Their online descriptions are quite accurate.
It's a toss up between the 1907 and Heartwood as my favorite. They smell about the same. The 1907 is a big stronger and the Heartwood more mellow. Then, probably, the absolute zero. I'm thinking the 1911 is next. It reminds me of the vintage Avon aftershave in a collectible bottle I was given as a child. Lime mint is next. I want to like it but just can't. The bay rum is a bit potent for my taste. I don't mind the smell. It's just strong. The old fashioned soda smells like root beer. Good smell, just not what I think is a good after shave.

Oh, the 1907 reminds me of the Dove For Men post shave balm I have. The Dove is a but more subdued.

The Ogallala came today. Came with a sample of their bay rum soap and air freshener. Let me say these general observations. One, the Ogallala is much smoother than the Neumann's. Second, I've learned I don't care for straight bay rum. The Ogallala also smells more natural, if that makes sense. Some of the Neumann's smells a bit artificial.

My rankings, from top to bottom are the sage and cedar, sandalwood, lime and peppercorn, and the bay rum. I prefer the lime and peppercorn over the lime mint.

Now, for the comparison. If you like a smooth bay rum, Ogallala hands down. For me, I'm leaning toward the Neumann's 1907 and Heartwood scents. They are a bit more bold than I like, but they're a great option for those of us not enthused with bay rum.
