Non Alcohol Splash (sorry if old topic)
I am trying to rid myself of this reoccuring rash that I get on my jaw line after shaving. I want to start with ridding myself of the burn that is present when using splashes. I have tried all kinds of splashes from Swiss Pitralon, to various Myrsol splashes, Floid Blue and which hazel.
Is there any non Alcohol splashes that you gentlemen have had success with?
Thanks,
Harry

My favorite non-alcohol splash is Thayer's witch hazel toner. You can also get the astringent which does have alcohol. Alum would be worth looking into also.

Maybe work on your technique or the blades are not quite there or maybe they are honed but have a rough edge but still sharp, I find that if I get irritation it's me being heavy handed, Tc

TC,
thanks for your comments. All my straights are sharp as can be, and they all get honed right after use. I have tried to go so lightly on each pass. I cut down on my passes from 3 to 2, forfiting that bbs. Still the rash appears.

I get rashes as well when I use alcohol based after shaves. However I long ago switched to non alcoholic gels/creams and the problem went away. I recently retried an alcohol based one and rashes came back

what do you mean by this? Razors rarely get honed after every use.
It could well be the alcohol that does the damage to your face, but there are so many other things too. People with sensitive skin play around with preshave formula, water temperature, soaps (I get rashes, and have found that I am safe with a limited number of creams and soaps), what aftershave they use etc.
One of the most important means to reduce skin irritation is shaving technique, angle of shaving, and making sure that the razor follows the correct path which is specific to your face. For example, on my jawline, the hairs do not grow in the same direction on either side, and so my "with the grain/x grain/ against" is different on either side of my face.
Look into lukewarm water shaving too.
Good luck - its all trial and error in this sport

This is one of my favourite alcohol-free aftershaves.
