Thanked: 0Oily skin
Any aftershaves for oily skin? Right now I'm using Proraso blue. I've seen threads in which is recommended to use alcohol splashes, but I also read that alcohol isn't good for the skin.

Lots of stuff ain't good for you, so give it a try. I like my alcohol splashes , after 45 years it still hasn't killed me. Tc

Thanked: 56You can use oil-free balms, too. Alcohol-based splashes dry the skin, so for guys with normal to dry skin, alcohol can excessively dry the skin, leading to flaking. If you have oily skin, you'd benefit from alcohol, as it will bring your skin down to normal. You'll want to avoid any kind of oil-based aftershave treatment.

Thanked: 5Witch hazel and vegetable glycerin work well for oily skin if you do not want to use an alcohol based splash. You should be able to find these at any drugstore. Around the first aid supplies. You will probably want to find a natural health store to get some essential oils too though since just the two ingredients will have no, or an undesirable scent.
For oily skin a citrus essential oil works well. Something like orange, lemon, or grapefruit. You can also use cypress, bergamont, and Geranium. A combination of 2 or 3 of these oils would create a nice scent.
What I have found works well is to mix all of the ingredients in a small dropper jar (I got 2 from a drugstore for $1.50). Fill it mostly with witch hazel, a few drops of glycerin, then about 15-20 drops of essential oils (this is for a 1 oz jar).
If you want to moisturize the skin while treating the oiliness mix in some jajoba oil. This will moisturize without being greasy. If doing this do about half witch hazel, 40% jajoba oil in the jar (or less if you want more dry feeling.)
You will probably have to give it a good shake before using. I use a WH and oil mix myself and like most oils, it separates. I give it a good shake before applying and it is all good. My skin feels moisturized, not greasy, and smells good for about 6-8 hours usually (this depends on the scents you use).
Hope this is useful. I found that making your own splash is significantly less expensive. You should be able to get all of this stuff for about $20 or less and it will last quite a while.

Thanked: 1936Man, I have oily skin and it's just a way of life. Your face will produce oil no matter what you use, so use what you like. I personally have to wash my face several times a day to avoid the glossy feel and look, but like I said it's a way of life. I have found that if you are rough on a shave with your face, you will produce a bit more oil for a day or two to help protect your skin. We were made that way and no product will really change how you were born. Wear what you like.
