    Default Pour spout

I notice on Lynn's DVD he has a pour spout on a bottle of bay rum aftershave. I really want one of those myself. Spilling an uneven amount of aftershave on my hands everyday is really getting old, if anyone has any ideas or if Lynn himself would guide me that would be great. By the way I have watched that DVD about 6 times now and each time I like it better than before. If Lynn makes an appearance on this thread I am curious... how did you get into straight razors?? I personally was tired of the monotony of never having a satisfying shave and dreading shaving on a daily basis. I still have not got that perfect shave, but I am enjoying learning and I am improving. I think that eventually I will emerge a victor in this battle.

    Talk to you guys later.

What about non portioned liquor spouts?
You should be able to get a pour spout from just about any kitchen supply store, or specialty liquor store. If you have a dollar store in your town you might find some cool spout bottles, vinager bottles etc. to decant your aftershave of choice into

Default Maybe not politically correct but

I got sick and tired of spilling Dominica Bay Rum all over myself and down my arm, etc. - I actually hit one of the bottles one day and spilled the damn thing all over the floor - didn't break and I caught it, sort of - but the opening in that thing is bigger than a beer bottle, so there was quite a splash -

I just went to the container store, and bought several nalgene bottles, and several spray top bottles too - and filled em up. The spray is nice, gets where you want it to, no fear of spillage, can spray as much or little as you want - and I have not noticed the plastic bottle causing any smell or plastic seepage in the rum. The nalgene I haven't been able to find in a spray, but the damn things are indestructible, are supposed to be "leakproof" and are really nice for throwing into luggage at last minute and running - try doing that with a cork stoppered Gentleman's Quarter cologne bottle!

Anyway, that was my fix - works well.

I use a well cleaned larger tabasco bottle. the little plastic dasher pops off and I fill it then put the dasher back on. It is free, it works well and dosn't look bad on the bathroom counter.

Thank God you clean them well. Can you imagine slapping Tabasco on irritated skin?!!!! Bay Rum is one thing, but man, that's tough.

I just put my thumb over the opening of my bottle of Dominica Bay Rum to control the output.

    Works great!!

I just use my index finger, but then again I have fairly large hands.

I do find it interesting however that we are discussing ways to avoid spilling a liquid out of a bottle due to carelessness on a site dedicated to using a sharp unprotected blade while partially clothed. LMFAO!

    Default Actually...

I don't think the original post had anything to do with carelessness, thank you.

It had to do with the way you have to splash out an ungodly amount of aftershave on your hands and the bowl to get it on your face given the shape and nature of most aftershave bottles, and a remedy for what I and the original poster saw (I think) as waste. All that perfectly fine Bay Rum and 4711 running down my arms and into the sink, makes me want to crawl in...

But the fact that I am using a scary shape blade around my oh-so-delicate flesh is not wasted on me, you may trust.

I intended no offense with my post. Not sure if any was taken since it's so difficult to decipher tone in plain text. My "carelessness" comment came less from the original poster's line: "...spilling an uneven amount..." ("Spilling" to me in that usage implied a certain amount of carelessness) than from your "I actually hit one of the bottles one day and spilled the damn thing all over the floor" post. It wasn't as much of a value judgment as I think may have been interpreted.

That being said I do agree that it can be difficult to properly meter the amount of liquid that manages to make it around my index finger to the other palm. On the other hand it's not like it's liquid platinum or anything. Just as in golf balls or dorritos, use all you want they'll make more.

    Default No offense -

No offense taken - trust me I have flailed once or twice with a sharp razor in my hands because of cats and stomping wives and alarm clocks going off in the middle of my coup de maitre - all of which have been DEALT with, trust me!

I have actually had this Dominica Bay Rum stain some towels and eat a little finish off the cabinets, so I would really like to control it better - the mouth on these bottles is bigger than a soda bottle! Hard even for those of you with thick masculine fingers to stopper!

Spray bottle, fits the bill - just do it!
