The girl test
I'm curious what other peoples experiences have been with their better halves regarding their reactions to different scents. I've been expanding my collection lately, with things ranging from the less expensive aftershaves, up to the more expensive colognes and have been pretty happy with the purchases i've made.
My girlfriend has had mixed reactions to some of my new odors.
My safe scents are CK Obsession, CK Dark Obsession and Fougere Classique. She goes for all of those, along with a few scented beard oils i like to use (pine, cedar, vetiver).
A large surprise was how much she liked the smell of Clubman Pinaud, and her eyes lit up when she smelled the Proraso M&E Aftershave.
Tabac she does not enjoy but told me it was tolerable. She also shot down the Bayolea Cologne until i was actually wearing it. When she took a whiff out of the bottle about a week ago she grimaced and gave me a look. Last night i wore it and she asked me what i was wearing because 'it was nice'. Maybe it sweetens up a bit when its actually on the skin, or maybe she was initially trying to deter me from buying $100 bottles from Europe with 50 ml of liquid in them. Be it known she owns about 2 different bathing products and washes her hair with baking soda. Shes a simple kind of gal.
So, what scents do you guys have that pass the girl test?

Thanked: 250In my experience this past year, Bay Rum is a solid thumbs down for women, Stetson is ho-hum, and that cheap Mennen Afta makes them say, "Ooooh you smell so good.".........go figure.

Thanked: 481I wouldn't discount Bay Rum. I know of at least one that likes the scent(she isn't mine though, and I don't envy the fellow that has her). Some of the older aftershaves are tricky, you can't let them get a whiff until they've had 10-15 minutes to mellow out.
I also find if you like cheap/classic brands it's usually not in your best interest to inform people what it is they're smelling until after they've given their opinion. Tell her it's bottom shelf drug store Brut and she'll crinkle her nose before even getting close enough to catch the scent. Lie to her and say it's a new expensive scent from CK she'll at least give it a fair shake (and probably tell you she likes the manly scent too).

Hello Gentlemen.
I guess I won the lottery. My wife's favorite scent is Bay Rum. Ogallala, CO9T, Royall, VIBR, it does not matter, she likes them.
The only exception is Col Conk Bay Rum.
Just goes to show you, you never know what SWMBO will like.

Thanked: 4830My wife tends to be happier with woodsy scents and not so much on the flowery smells. Vetiver and Cedar wood are always a smash hit, no on anything citrus, and hell no on Tabac and Bay Rum. Of the smoky woodsy scents Fugrere sits at the bottom. I do like smoky woodsy scents with a hint of frankincense. My wife has been mostly unpredictable for over twenty years. My method is try it and see, you never know. Things she does not like but I do, I use at work, having a 21 day shift in a remote location is handy for that.

Thanked: 3228Never had an unsolicited comment from the boss on any scent that I have worn. She's either nose blind or just suffers in silence. Either way it is awful peaceful.
