Thread: Aftershave Balms Should Not Apply Like Cheap Hand Lotion

My two current favorite aftershave balms are Castle Forbes and TOBS. They go on with no greasy feel and absorb into the skin almost instantly.

For variety I bought a couple artisanal balms and they were greasy feeling and resisted absorption. If you wanna know exactly what I mean, just rub some Jergen's on your face. It's fine, but you have to rub and rub and swirl this white mess around your face and finally it's gone. I'm gonna stick to the good stuff.

Cade by L'Occitane is a good lotion, they call it a balm. Art of shaving is good to but in my opinion it is overpriced but they do smell nice.

I have not found better than Xpec balm..
Must be the Shea butter.

I was using "Suavecito" sandlewood. I absolutely loved the fragrance (as did my wife). Unfortunately, it left my skin feeling very dry. Now I just stick to "Suavecito" after shave and a good face cream. But tomorrow is payday so I might try some of the suggestions on this post. Thank you!!

I really like aftershave Balms, especially when I'm going with a no scent shave cream or aftershave.
My current fave is the fairly new Proraso Vityver and Cypress Aftershave Balm. I really like this fragrance and the way it feels on the skin.
Full disclosure, I absolutely love all the Proraso products and if I had to play the game of "if only one WHICH one?" it would be Proraso.



For unscented, I usually go with Cremo Moisturizing Balm after WitchHazel and Aloe splash.
I have a concoction of Witchhazel, White Tree Bark, Aloe and Tea Tree Oil, but honestly, simple Thayers with Aloe or Dickenson's with some Aloe liquid added work just as well. My opinion of course.


I really like the Cremo line for many reasons. It's readily available, it's super inexpensive, and it WORKS. The shave cream is wonderful as long as you don't expect a lot of "lather". It's low lather cream but talk about slick? James Bond could use it for generating tire slicks for chasing cars.

I lived in France for a few years when I was younger and I really like many of the French fragrances and HBA products. I got used to Guerlain and many of the other popular brands from France. L'Occitane is one of my very favorites. The quality of their products is superior. Of course, you pay for this, but most would say it is worth the price.

What's awesome, when traveling, is you can sometimes find a L'Occitane retail store in Airports, or in Malls. They ALWAYS have plenty of free samples available for the taking. Handy when you are traveling.
