Aftershave balm with spf
My dermatologist suggests that every man use an aftershave with at least spf 30 as a general precaution. I've seen a Nivea product that has spf 15 but nothing else on the shelves. Who better to ask than you guys: Are there products available with spf 25 or more that are a good aftershave?
Thanks all

Thanked: 603Apples and oranges. Aftershaves (and I believe you're talking about "balms", i.e. lotions) and sun-blocking creams (regardless of SPF) are not the same... nor should they be. Don't confuse 'em.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Ok. Separate products. Single purposes. Never the twain shall meet.
But............aren't aftershaves multipurpose (i.e., in the sense that they moisturize, provide relief for irritation and minor nicks/razor burn, offer a pleasing scent, etc)? And if so, why can't they also provide sun protection, if only to a moderate degree? I realize a one-size-fits-all is never a perfect fit but I gotta believe there are good products that qualify as an aftershave that also offer sun protection. Anyway, I was asking if anyone knows of such a product. You guys seem to find things that I'd never hear of anywhere else. Thanks. And if you come across an oranapple, let JB know!
Best to all.

I've used a good moisturizing cream in place of a balm before, e.g. Keihl's, but I have yet to see one with an SPF of 25 or more, as they are all called sunscreen. JB is correct, there is a difference.

I would ask your dermatologist.
I would hope he/she would know of one if they recommend it.
Let us know what they say.

Back from the dermatologist. She gave me a sample of, and I've since purchased, Neutrogena Triple Protect Face Lotion with broad spectrum spf 20. She would prefer I use SPF 30 or more, daily. Now, I am 66, an age when many of us meet up with past sins like sun exposure. But she would suggest you youngins do likewise. (Are you aware more of us develop lesions on the left side of our face because of exposure while driving!)
Anyway, she was surprised there were not balm aftershaves with greater protection. As for the Neutrgena product, it's first claim is that it "instantly calms razor burn and irritation; it's 2nd and 3rd claims are as a moisturizer and age ("signs of") fighter, respectively.
