Default Wholly Kaw “Toner” - ?

With winter around the corner, a good aftershave becomes a little more important to me. Winter is way harsher on my face than summer.

I’ve heard great things about Wholly Kaw’s aftershaves in the past, and I’m thinking maybe it’s time to give it a try! Better yet, the Wholly Kaw scent that I want (Man From Mayfair), comes in a splash and a toner. All summer I’ve been using a splash and then following up with a balm, and I love how that works for me.

But what says you? A “toner?” Has anyone tried this stuff? The write up is interesting - or do you have a better idea? Input is a good thing.

“Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer a super moisture ingredient derived from Hyaluronic Acid that maintains supple and radiant skin. Think of it as time release moisture protection and replenishment agent that stays on the skin because of the lattice like crosspolymer. It forms an excellent protective film with long-lasting moisturizing effect on the skin. Smooth and not sticky feeling, forming a crosslinked network on the skin and increases skin elasticity.”

I’ve never had any luck with toners alone. I have really dry skin and must have a balm to finish. I may use a splash as well but the last thing on my face has replenish the oils that I’m deficient in.

I mostly use a splash followed by a balm, like you do. I like the burn of a splash, but the moisturizing properties of a balm. I have a few toners, but from other soap makers, and have also enjoyed them. They seem to be somewhat like a splash, with just a little burn, but with added nutrients and moisturizers, eliminating the need for a balm. When I have a choice, I'll always chose the splash/balm combination, but I've been happy with a toner when those aren't available.

Alright. I’ve had a few bourbons and an ambien so I’m in truth telling mode. No Roseanne stuff jut shave talk. After my shave and before the rinse inslather on a generous anoint of Thayer astringent. After that alumn. I rinse the brush and then do a cold water rinse. I pat dry and slap on the splash. Typically it’s nay rum. I use the towel to breeze over my face and dry the AS. I give the razor a strop and then apply a balm. Finished.

Well, who’s making the best balms these days then?

I really wanted to try B&M’s 42 - they have the splash, but no balm .

I use mostly non-alcoholic toners these days, Thayers (the non-astringent products), Lucky Tiger, and the low-alcohol D. R. Harris Pink. These get followed by a balm/cream, usually AdP Revitalizing Face Cream, ABC Apricot Hull (a heavier product) or Almond (a lighter product - the Tobacco Verde is also nice), or l'Occitane Cade ASB. PdP balm is also excellent. I use the I Coloniali Rhubarb balm with other IC products and the Dior Eau Sauvage balm with the ES shaving cream.

With winter around the corner, I might have to start taking the alcohol based splashes out of the routine, but I hope not. I haven’t had so much as even a hint of a pimple since using them. And I love the feeling! It’s as though I’m burning up any residual soap scum and killing off all dead skin lol.

I’m going to have to pick up a balm for my AdP. So far the Pre de Prevonce 63 has been a great match.
