    Normally, the only aftershave I use is witch hazel. I try to use soaps that have good moisturizing and conditioning properties. In winter I may use a balm (Chicago winters can get cold and windy).

    I do have a sample of Dr. Hauschka's toner that was included with another order I received. I tried it, but it I can't say that it fulfilled any real or perceived need.

    I've spent time in Chi-Town over the winter. If I didn't have a balm, I'd have to grow a beard. That dry cold wind coming off the plains... ouch!

    But I need to be careful, I've never used witch hazel, it might be more effective than I thought.

    A quality witch-hazel is the best toner money can buy. You really don't need anything else except maybe an Alum Block. It tones the skin too.

    I've never used Alum but would not be without witch-hazel. Indispensable in my shave den and travel kit. The shave wouldn't seem complete without it.
