Default Al Wisam Day EDP (FOTD discussion, moved and cont'd)

I thought about replying via PM, but instead opted to make this a public post... and make it its own thread, rather than clutter-up FOTD.

I kept having this nagging feeling of deja-vu... that I'd "seen" this scent (Al Wisam Day) before. I was right... I had. It's Gauloise, by Molyneux -- sadly, now discontinued (but I own an almost-full 100ml container). Absent the Geranium, and a couple of other components, they're remarkably similar... so much so, that I've decided to not purchase Al Wisam Day, much as I like it. True, the Geranium->Rose transition is such a pleasant one, but I'm going to let a conservative fiscal policy dictate my decision.

Anyway, this isn't a criticism of AWD -- far from it! -- rather, a simple and admittedly inept comparison... but one that I feel ought to be shown. If, BITD, I'd bought a tub of QED Rose Geranium shaving soap, my decision to forego the pleasure of Al Wisam Day would be that much more definitive. Still, I'll take this one as a "win".

But I will say this: If you don't own an EDT/EDP that's as similar to Al Wisam Day as mine, and you like/lack a "rosy" afterscent in your arsenal, then do yourself a favor and buy Al Wisam Day -- you won't be disappointed. If I didn't, I would.

You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

I know exactly where you are coming from. There are many fragrances that I haven't purchased as it would be redundant having two smelling so similar. I suppose there are only so may combos before you are repeating something.

There are also the "clones" you can get as well where its a blatant copy although new scents will be dubbed that way for smelling to similar to something already out there. Rasasi is a known clone house so not surprising that it smells like something already out there. Must admit that from the couple of fragrances that I have had of theirs that the are a decent quality and performance.
