Shopping for scents in person
I can find the Clubman scents fairly easily, and that's why they dominate my cologne rotation. However, I'd like to try some of the more exotic/expensive ones I see mentioned online, like the Dominica Bay Rum, Caswell Massey and Taylor's of Old London.
I'm a short train ride from New York. Are there any shops in NYC or New Jersey that have a good selection of men's shaving items?
Memory serves, there's a place in NYC that has some of the higher-end ones but I can't find it online yet.Last edited by fdoosey; 08-27-2007 at 11:36 PM.

you're in luck
Hey FD,
You have many options in the City - one of the best selections in the country. Head up Madison Ave. to about 72nd (give or take a few blocks) and check out Penhaligons. Great scents and unlike the typical Dept store fare. My favorite
The flagship Saks store has a pretty good selections of scents (Castle Forbes, Floris, Creed, etc).
Look up Cambridge Chemists on line. They just moved. I wanna say they're at 65th and Lex, but I could be wrong.
In the 60s , also on Lex is Pasteur's RX (sp?). They also have a store at 34th and I wanna say Park. They carry Taylors, DR Harris, Trumper, etc.
Good luck and let us know what you find!

They are on the pricey side, but try on the Blenheim Bouquet and English Fern - let them dry down and see what you think. A small amount does last a long time...I know - enabler

Now, the obvious silly question, most of these places are willing to let you try a sample on the skin, no? Much like a Macy's will let me come out reeking like a French whore on samples?
I may bring the Mrs if I can't get small samplers to take home...she is not a fan of the Clubmans, claims I smell like an old man. Between those and her granddad's stash (Aqua Velva, and Brut) I guess she might be onto something.

They do allow you to try them on. They also give samples (I think they may need to know you are a serious customer tho and not someone just looking for freebies).
