I have never tried a bay rum and I didn't know anything about it. But reading so many posts on the shaving forums I decided to try one a couple of years ago.
I found positive comments regarding the Ogallala bay rum so that was the one I ordered.
When it came I opened it to feel the scent.
This was the most awful smell I had ever experienced. I closed it immediately and sent it to a friend who actually liked it.
Since time has passed from that day, I am thinking of trying another bay rum that maybe smells different compared to Ogallala.
I would like to ask if there is anybody like me that doesn't like the Ogallala bay rum, but has tried other one that actually prefers. I am thinking especially the Clubman bay rum because I really like the classic scent and the musk, and I also enjoy the reserve version.
Thank you.

Thanked: 13234Slur,
If the Ogallala turned your nose and you still want to try a Bay Rum, you will want to try one with the "Island Version" of the scent..
They tend to be a Lighter scent with very little too no cloves, some that come to mind
Dominica
Bois de Inde
St Lucia
Constanza

Thanked: 375That's what drew me in. It has grown on me after a couple of days use. Although I'm curious if they actually use Pimenta Racemosa, as they only list it as Bay Leaf oil so I suspect not the proper leaf, so a weak BR scent. If they would add the right bay rum oil this stuff would rock, because the surrounding notes I pick up on are nice.
In my review of it I suggested a cheaper refill option (seems a waste to toss such a cool bottle and labeling), and questioned the Bay Leaf oil.Last edited by Trimmy72; 05-12-2014 at 02:43 PM.
