I have a bottle of Thayer's WH with Aloe, and to be honest, I can't tell any difference between the times I use it and the times I don't. Of course--as can be seen from the above-noted posts--YMMV.

It also comes in a Lemon scent that is a nice complement to Lime shaving creames and other lime products like Lime Face Food.

zI have a bottle of Proraso A/S splash that contains witch hazel and while I think its a great aftershave, I don't really think it is spectacular or that the witch hazel contributes much. A store in my neighborhood has a special on Thayer's (the whole line) for $5.99 so I will probably end up picking up a bottle just for the hell of it.

The stuff from the drug store smells a little better than cat pee. I only use it if i need too.

I used to use it when I first started wet shaving.
Now I just use an alum block in my regimen.
Apply alum block.
Clean my razor & sink while I let my face rest.
Splash cold water on my face.
Pat dry.
Apply A/S.

Thanked: 7I use witch hazel now and again although not so much as an aftershave but along with it. I usually shave before showering and I will always use the witch hazel then for its toning properties. Afterwards I will shower and use the aftershave of my choice once I dry off.

I mix witch hazel into my aftershave balm. A few months ago I got tired of no one having an aftershave balm in the scent I wanted. Now I buy the cosmetic base (body milk), then mix it with witch hazel, cornhuster's lotion, rose water, (sometimes lavender water), then scent it with essential oils myslef. I almost have Colleen's Orange Patchouli shaving cream scent duplicated, so it matches my aftershave balm. It works out great. The aftershave balm has all the properties to meet the requirements of my skin. It is scented the way I want it, and it only cost me about $5 to make a 5 month supply.

Thanked: 1I find that ice cold water makes a great aftershave, followed by ZIRH "Soothe" balm. There is no need to put anything that "stings" on your face.....like witch hazel or alcohol. All that does is irritate.

But the sting feels so good!
I am noticing that witch hazel does a good job at tightening up the face.
