Thanked: 4making your onwn AS Balm
Was thinking about mixing up some of my own aftersafe balm/ moisturiser. Was figuring mixing glyscerine, coconut oil, witch hazle, and some type of essential oil for scent. Would I be on the right track?
I was also considering getting some of the Trumpers skin food, but I understand it doesn't do much as a moisturiser.

Thanked: 32Maybe try a different oil. I understand coconut oil is good for the skin but according to this chart it may clog pores so I don't know if I would use it on the face.

Trumpers skin food is merely just glycerine mixed with rose water. A few extra ingredients make it unique but it's really quite easy to make yourself.
You can make your own rose water by steeping rose petals in boiling water and leaving for 72 hours.
Good luck with your quest!

Thanked: 735Lately I've been using a 50-50 mix of Corn Huskers Lotion and pure Aloe vera gel. I then throw in a dash of glycerin. Apply it as much as you like, 2, 3, 10 times a day, it's all good, and works well on your hands too.
Been working really very nice! It has a nice clean feel to it, not oily at all. It leaves your face wet for a few minutes (from the aloe, I believe) and then dries nicely. So, I suppose if you like a balm that "soaks in" as you apply it, my mix may not be for you.
Another possible drawback is that the Corn Huskers has a very baby powdery smell to it. Not bad, but ceratainly not something that conjures up images of what Chuck Norris or Charles Bronson may wear as a scent.
Previuosly I had used:
King of Shaves aftershave lotion, which was pretty nice, nothing to write home about. Ran out of it, and went on to try something else.
JASON WitchVera, I sort of liked this, but I did not care for the smell, and it did not seem to like to be near alum.
Earth Science after shave lotion, this is a very nice, light AS. Very watery, but soothing and absorbed quickly. This is still in use. I also like the scent. Not really a balm though. I may add some of this to my 50/50 mix for the scent, since the wife likes to give it a sniff as well!

I've made some home made aftershaves from various online recipes.
I have no issues with alcohol so that isn't an issue but I am partial to both the effects and affects of rose water and witch hazel mixes and use them throughout the day as toner.
I did like the smell of cinnamon and clove additions but did not like the stain your white shirts tea that resulted.
Have fun
