GFT colonge.
Anyone have any opinions / input on either Astor or Marlborough cologne from GFT? I can't, for the life of me, seem to figure out how to get them to send me samples - no response to emails.
I have found one post detailing that the Astor might be getting positive responses with the other gender. But can't find much on Marlborough, maybe I'm just spelling it wrong or my search skills ran out.
Any new input, personal or objective is much appreciated.Last edited by Chady; 05-15-2008 at 04:14 AM.

I just received my samples from GFT tonight. I had to give them my CC# and
pay for the shipping from England. I haven't had a chance yet to try them
but I will shortly. Testing out the Penhaligon's samples I received on Friday
and they gave me a ton of them with no shipping charge.

Hmm, I sent them an email asking for samples of their skin food and they were very prompt in replying and sending my samples w/o charge...I wonder why the inconsistency.

When they have sample kits available, the kits only show up on the website under "order brochure". There's a link on the main page at the bottom left.
http://www.trumpers.com/shop_detail....&form.search=x
When they don't have any samples the link redirects back to the main page. Just try every few days, and when it's available you can add to cart and just pay for shipping.
I hope that helps, and good luck. GFT makes some good stuff.

Just to add to what BigBubba said, I think you also didn't get charged for
your skin foods because you just asked for a sample of one type of
product. Where as I ordered the sample pack that has a bit of everything.
I also asked for extra Cologne samples because they only offered 6 vials.
They sent me an extra 12 Cologne vials. But either way you have to pay
for shipping of the sample "packs" now.

My sample pack came today--and it had Astor cologne in it. (OT: It looks like they now send you samples of all 3 skin foods, but the size is only 8 ml now, whereas it used to be 25.)
I'll post a report when I test it out.

Chady I tried the Marlborough Cologne and It reminds me of something I
have worn before but I can't remember what that was. I'm not very good at
describing scents but I'll give it a shot.
What I'm smelling from the top notes are lime and possibly Cinnamon.
The lower notes reminded me of leather mixed with moss & something sweet.
The middle notes I've must have missed.
All I can say is the scent lasted a long time and I can still smell it on me.
I really enjoy the scent "as does my wife which is important"and the name suits it well.
Maybe someone with more experience with Marlborough Cologne can
chime in and explain this a bit better. Thanks.

Okay, as promised, here's a quick write-up of Trumper's Astor cologne.
The website says it's sandalwood & caraway. I put this on after sandalwood cream (which had almost dried out and gave generally crappy performance in the slickness department as a result) & sandalwood skin food (samples).
It goes on with a kind of dull sweetness not unlike sandalwood skin food (not bad, but I can see how some might think it smelled "feminine"). The caraway is noticable, but overshadowed by the sweetness. After drydown, it can still be smelled for a good 2-4 hours, after which, only the [sweet] sandalwood remains. After 12 hours, it's gone on me.
Next up: Spanish Leather & GFT. Let me know if you want me to review those also.

GFT: hard to describe. At first I smelled a little bergamot with oak, moss and something else. Over time the citrusy scent died down. This is never overpowering or too sweet. It lasted a good 8-10 hours on me. It also smelled more "grown-up" and "masculine" i.e. not something a wannabe thug type or a "pretty-boy" (who both probably use 5-bladed cartridge razors anyway) would be likely to wear. Really hard to nail exactly what it is, but I like it.
Spanish Leather: A sort of spicy-woody fragrance that does actually smell a bit like leather right after drydown. After about an hour, it gradually fades into something less distinctive, but still nice. You could say the scent gets less and less sharp as the day goes on. Again, not too sweet or "girly".Last edited by PA23-250; 05-28-2008 at 06:49 AM. Reason: Typos
