Default Post Shave: Lotion, alcohol, and the rest

    Hey all,

Trying to fix my shaving routine, since I have sensitive skin I noticed lotion/moisturizer is the better option. But I'm still not clear on a few things:
    1. Should I use a specialized FACIAL lotion or can I use a regular lotion that you can use on your hands?
    2. I have a tendency to get whiteheads. Should I use Alcohol aftershave to close the pores and then lotion, or should I just go straight to lotion?

My routine was something like this:
Wet face then wrap with HOT towel for 2 min.
    Apply lather
    Shave, rinse, lather, Shave
    rinse with COLD water
Apply OLD SPICE, then immediatly with a cold towel
    Finish with Talc Powder

This gave me a smooth shave that wasn't uncomfortable, but after a day or two I'd get a bunch of whiteheads. Should I not use the Old Spice or Talc?

Any advice would be great. Thanks

    1) Shave only once, done correctly, you will get a perfectly good shave. Multiple passes are a prime source of irritation.

    2) Ditch the Talc, it just clogs up your pores

    3) Cold water and witch hazel right after the shave will close your pores. If you want to use aftershave use it last, but anything wiht alcohol in it will dry your skin.

    4) If you most have a fragrence, see if you can find a hydrosol you like, these will be much less irritating than alcohol based fragrences. You can make simple hydrosols in a kitchen steamer using what ever spices you like.

Maybe you are just one of those guys who, like me, gets many tiny whiteheads after a shave.

I tried many many things, but ultimately had to realize one very important thing:

I cannot shave ATG! My skin just cant have it. So I shave two passes WTH and two across in both directions.

And also I found, that coconut oil works extremely well for me as an aftershave. I rinse with cold water and apply the oil and leave it on, and thats it. Very very good for my skin.

Now i have just recieved pre shave oils from The art of shaving and I will experiment with them as aftershaveoils as well.

Where do you get the coconut oil from? I would be curious to try it.

Why have a store here in Europe called "matas". I dont know if you have it. They sell soaps, shampoos, creams, parfumes, dietproducts, natural medicin, sport oils etc. Thats where I buy it, and it doesnt cost much.
