    Default Need a recommendation 4 Balm, Pleeeeeez

    Hey ya'll dudes;

    Living in Northern Vermont, I don't have much opportunity to try out all the wonderful aftershaves/balms I read about here. I recently bought some cologne after reading a description on Classic Shaving but was disappointed because it doesn't last more than an hour or two.

    Now I'm looking for a balm along the same scent lines as Old Spice, my favorite aftershave so far because it seems to last long into the afternoon. I am practicing my honing skills, and they are far from perfect - many of my razors do not give me those goody good shaves yet due to my inexperience, and as such, my face is a micro-plowed universe of abraded skin that cries, cries, cries a little too much when I splash on the good old Pinaud or Old Spice. Thus I need:

    Balm Requirements:
    (1) Has some alcohol in it (**love** the mini-burn)
    (2) Scent is along the lines of Old Spice
    (3) LONG LASTING
    (4) No limey-ness to it

    Any suggestions? BTW I smelled the TSF and wasn't too interested ...

    Hmm, I think many people like Nivea and Neutrogena, although they are not Old-Spice smelling per-se. I have bought most of my ASB online and it's aways somewhat risky whether I'd like the smell.
    I quite like trumper's skin food, will have to order sample of the sandalwood one of these days.
    Others will probably give you some better recommendations soon.

    Oh yeah, keep practicing your honing, light touch. And also light touch when shaving.

    Missed the long-lasting part. I think most aftershaves are purposefully less fragranced. They are meant to sooth your skin (that's why I like the coral skin food - the smell doesn't last very long on me). EdT, EdP are made just with the purpose of adding scent to your body, so I'd look into using those. Of course how long they last is a combination of many things - the ingredients (some fragrances are very fleeting, e.g. citrus), the temperature and humidity, and your body chemistry... You only find out by trying out...
    You can always carry around a small bottle and do a refresh every now and then.

    Nivea for me. Moisturizing after-shave balm. Low alcohol content, soothes the skin and re-hydrates. Works like a charm and my wife loves the smell

    I concur with gugi, not quite sure what you mean by long lasting. If you are looking for a long lasting scent with your aftershave you might looking for the wrong remedy. I use the "Mr. Taylor" scent from Taylors of Olde Bond Street aftershave because it has a great aroma and soothing to my face. It's scent doesn't last for more than a few hours at most. If you want something longer lasting perhaps you might consider a mens cologne.
