Default Bay Rum no good for work

I am a Paramedic. My Captain called me into his office the other day and told me three people had comeup to him telling him I "reeked of alcohol". I was not in post-night of debauchery mode. I was mystified. He said he didn't think I smelled, or looked bad, so off I went. A little humiliated. I later realized, it had to have been my bay rum aftershave. I talked to a few people right when I came in for the day, then didn't see anyone else until I was in the Captain's office. By that time, I'm sure the aftershave had worn off. What do you guys thin? this is the only reasonable explanation I can think of.

I'm going to agree it's the Bay Rum. But I'll add it's probably just the spices etc that are left behind once the alcohol evaporates which is within seconds after application.

My wife made a similar observation to me about me smelling more alcoholic when she came in close for some lip service. She made this observation after a day's work had put itself between her and my last Bay Rum application. I wear Bay Rum nearly every day and the only way anyone is going to smell it after an hour or two is to be in close proximity to you. Indeed unless you use a substantial amount you can't even smell it on a person after 30 minutes unless you're up close.

I don't know what it is about the spices etc but they seem to remind people of alcohol.

    Regards,
    EL

Wow! That's intense - your colleagues ratted you out for aftershave! Now that's a story for the grandkids (when you get some)..."This one time, way back at the turn of the century, I was called into the office and confronted about my drinking...and for some reason, they didn't believe me when I told them it was my aftershave!"

uh oh , maybe weve started something, but then again how are you going to explain the fact that you cant walk the line, wont be able to blame the aftershave!

I was so damn angry about the whole thing. I'm glad to hear some of you say the same though. I guess I'll switch to Old Spice for work days.
