My sequence...where does Skin Food come into play?
OK, please help me out here on the order of after-shave products...I've just come back into SR shaving after a hiatus of about 6 months and while my technique came back quickly within just 2-3 shaves, I've never been real clear about the "afterwards" sequence of events.
Bearing in mind I have female skin, here's what I've been doing:
1. Splash freshly-shaved face & neck with COLD water to seal pores and heal microtrauma.
2. Pat (not rub) dry with very absorbent towel
3. Splash on the Thayers blue label or green label (with aloe vera), which stings (when I say "splash", I mean splash into my hand, where I spread it around to the other hand, coating hands, then smooth onto face.)
4. Wave hand around like a fan to air-dry Thayers on face, and when reasonably dry...
5. Splash on my beloved Castle Forbes 1445 after-shave.
6. When reasonably dry, apply facial moisturizer with sunscreen as usual.
7. SMILE!!!
OK, now gents, where does my new Trumpers' Skin Food come into this sequence? Does it replace something or does it go somewhere in this sequence?Last edited by YesSheDoes!; 01-06-2009 at 02:03 PM.

Though I have never used it I understand it's basically rose water and glycerin. I'd say use it after step 4. Though if it has witch hazel you can just replace the Thayers step with the skin food.

I never saw such a developed sequence... nice... I think that being you I would use the skin food as moisturiser, and not as a supplementary step.
When shaving, after rinsing my face with cold water - for almost a minute - I simply apply the Trumper skin food and tada! done... If I want to use cologne or an aftershave with alcohol, I mainly use first an unscented aftershave balm, followed by my favourite cologne or scented aftershave...
The best is maybe to try different set-up until you find the best for you.

A lot of folks use Skin Food after whatever product they use for a balm or moisturizer. In this case it is more of a sealant than anything else. At the other extreme, I have read many posts that indicate that it is used as a preshave. In fact, those lucky enough to get a shave at Trumper in London or attend the Trumper classes say that the Trumper barbers use it both ways in the course of one shave. Of course, they do make the stuff, and have a vested interest.
I guess there is no absolute answer except use it however it works for you.

I use the SF after my AS splash (I give it 5-10 minutes to evaporate) in the place of moisturizer. During the dry winter, i don't use SF very much as I need heavier moisture - in which case I use Proraso as balm or qed tobacco balm, etc.
In the wetter months, the SF is just right.
