Default has anyone ever tried this...

Tried putting coffee beans in their homemade AS?

I love coffee so much and I thought it could be cool...sort of like Pre de Provence Green Teat splash (one of my favourite by the way)

    I just...I mean...

    Whhhhoooooo boy. Nope, too easy.

I haven't thought of trying it, but I know of at least one small soap maker who was considering putting coffee grounds in a coffee scented soap to act as a kind of exfoliant. I'm sure it wouldn't be bad--the oils in the beans would probably mix well with the splash. It might discolor your skin, though...

Interesting question. I roast my own coffees and can't think of how I would transfer the essence to an aftershave. You would probably have to find a source of coffee essential oils. (Which ones? Sumatra? Costa Rica? El Salvador? Guatemala? Ethiopia? Kenya? Decisions, decisions.) Otherwise you would be trying to concentrate your coffee into something that would be useful in an aftershave.

It doesn't sound appealing to me, but to each his own.

Wouldn't you just leave the beans in the aftershave to draw the oils out?

Alcohol will of course extract the essential oils from coffee beens just as it will from a number of other materialsl. Like other materials, and as discussed here previously, it will also extract any number of other chemicals, some of which you may not want in your aftershave. What you want is to get the EOs into the alcohol solution without the other stuff. Maybe you can buy coffee EO, I don't know, you can try to distill it out yourself, either with ethanol or steam, but that takes quite a bit of equipment. But, here's a thought: if you have an expresso machine or know someone who does, you can get some coffee EO. When making expresso, the high temperature water extracts the EOs from the coffee. Since EOs are not soluable in water, they collect at the top of the cup. This is the frothy crema present on any good expresso. It's actually a mixture of EOs and a water, but the EOs are concentrated. Skim this off into a container and let it settle (the foam will break eventually) and you will have a small amount of concentrated coffee EO. Collect as much as you need and disolve in alcohol.

If you collect enough, you will probably be able to separate the EO from the water in the crema
