Thanked: 52Bay rum at Classicshaving.com
There are a bunch of bays at classic.
now i have dominica...and have ogallala...both of which i really like...
I was wondering if anyone could compare the following to those or to each other...
Capt Smiths Spiced Bay Rum - Body Crystal
Carribean Bay Rum - Body Crystal
St. Lucia Bay Rum - St Lucia Bay Rum Company
The capt smith sounds spicer which i will probably like based on other posts...but what about the other two...or is Dominica pretty much the same as those two?

Thanked: 13249Well then Sir, it is your scared duty, when you get them to continue that thread
PS: the Capt 's is spicy and a clove scent sorta like the Ogallala but with more of a hint of the IslandsLast edited by gssixgun; 03-12-2009 at 08:37 PM.

I see the issue of Bay Rum a little differently than most people. I am yet to find a Bay Rum that I do not like. I loved the smell since I was a kid, and as a teenager, I made my own at home. Like with most anything else, there are different categories and prices of Bay Rum. The examples that we find around the US are some of the best ones. In general, they are very complex and contain other spices to support the scent of the bay leaves (Pimenta racemosa) and of course, the prices reflect that. Bay Rum is extremely cheap in the some areas of the Caribbean, so cheap that people do not use as an aftershave or cologne. In those places, people use Bay Rum for headaches or as a disinfectant. If you like Bay Rum as much as I do, you probably cannot go wrong with any of them, and as long as the price is not prohibitive, either one would make a nice addition to your collection. I recently tried the St. Johns, which is one of the most refined and expensive ones. I would have probably not paid that much for a bottle but I got it as a gift and I like it. As Glen said, try one (or several) and let us know what you think of them.

Thanked: 586Of course the smell thing is completely subjective. Here is a thread about bay rums you might want to avoid. http://straightrazorpalace.com/after...-bay-rums.html Notice Dominica with lime is in the initial post. There are many that would tend to disagree with that. However, in answer to youre initial query, stay away from the St. Lucia. I've experienced better aromas wafting from dirty gas station urinals. But then again, someone must like the stuff.
