    Update: Recipe 3 works really well for me. I shave, cold water rinse, splash on either recipe 1 or 2, let it dry, and follow up with recipe 3. Works well in an empty Mennen Afta squeeze bottle.

    I've never even thought of making my own aftershave, but I have made other things that involved putting spices in alcohol and letting is sit before straining and bottling. (home made vanilla extract comes to mind)

    If you found the balance of scents to be good, but simply too strong, just try again at 8 days, or 5, or whatever you think would be good. There's nothing wrong with simply taking a sniff once a day and straining when it smells the way you want.
