Trumpers Cream
While I was in England a while back I picked up a brush and some shave cream from Trumpers Headquarters. I picked up a smallish pure badger travel brush (cheap and easy to travel with) and the big tub of Violet cream. The cream smells great and gets a good lather.
I've been using them and loving them for quite some time but all this reading about different brands gets me curious.
Do any of you have experience with these particular products and how do they stack up to different brands.
I think my next purchase (after a new strop) will be some of Colleen's soap. I've never actually tried a soap and hear she's the best.

There are some folks that go absolutely ga-ga over Trumper's creams and not without reason. In my opinion, there's much better that can be had for the money. I'm not saying that they're bad creams at all, just that to me, they're mediocre considering how much you pay for them.
Compared to other creams in a similar price range (Penhaligon's and D.R. Harris come immediately to mind), they fall short. The Coconut cream is a huge exception, however. The Rose is another very good performer, but Salter's Wild Rose and Taylor's Rose are still superior in every way. YMMV.
J.M. Fraser's, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Musgo, Speick, Salter's, et al, blow Trumper's out of the water in terms of efficacy (for less money) if you ask me.
Again, this is all so subjective that no one is really right or wrong. There are gentlemen that prefer Trumper's creams over all others and I have no right to tell them that they're deluded.
If you're a soap user, you may want to give the Trumper's soaps a try. I've used both formulations (tallow and the newer palm oil), and there's not really a huge difference. They're top-notch, especially the Rose.

Thanked: 0I just picked up a tube of Trumper's Coconut and a Taylor's Almond. The almond one smelled so good I almost tasted it (Pignoli cookie type of smell). I have used the Taylor's once so far and it lathers up really well, glide was very good, only one cut which was my fault. I didn't buy any T&H because I didn't like the smell of what was available. I like Coleen's Highlander soap but the smell is too strong for my wife and she used her veto power on that one.

My impression with Trumper's soap has been nothing but positive. I have not tried many commercial soaps that provide better cushion and glide than Trumper's. I think that Trumper's get a bad wrap (negative reviews) because of perhaps its only weak point: the scent. It is not very potent and it seems sort of man-made. Otherwise, I cannot find many flaws with it. I posted this question about the bad reviews but nobody answered, this is only my guess.
I have the opposite impression of Taylor creams, people give them very good reviews. In my opinion, they are good but not great performers. If you consider the amount you need to use to produce abundant lather, other creams are better. You need to use about half the amount of The Bomb (my own soap) to make lather of similar consistency, the lather is good though. One cream that I would like to try is Cyril Salter as I heard good things about it. At the end, I think that you get what you pay for...

All the TOBS creams I've used so far don't have quite enough slip for my taste.
My favorite GFT cream was limes: for me, the lather was just about perfect (and I actually liked the smell that some complain is not strong enough). Violet for me was mediocre. Almond reminded me of Taylor's--not quite slippery enough.
FWIW, this was a sample pack almost a year ago. I am seriously thinking of picking up a tub of limes, though. That said, I don't think I'd pay $35/tub like most vendors are charging; I'd just get CF instead. ShavingEssentials sells them for only $24.
