    Default Splash recommendation

I have been using Nivea Sensitive daily since I started with the straight. I never used A/S when I was shaving with a cartridge(face would have melted probably). Up until the last couple days it was feeling fine but since the weather warmed up I have noticed a real heavy feeling to my face. Soooo... I would like to experiment a little bit before I start ordering expensive things on the internet. I used the sensitive formula because it is pretty much scentless and that was the only real reason. I have normal skin or maybe even slightly oily so moisturizing is not a huge problem. I have a deep seated hatred for menthol and don't care about a "cooling" effect. I do occasionally have to deal with an ingrown hair so I am thinking an alcohol based AS might not be the worst thing in the world anyway.

So I am looking for an AS that can meet any combination of the following.

    Little/No scent
Scent will be gone by the time I get to the bottom of the stairs
Scent that dry down to a pachouli, oak moss, or leather type of scent to be compatible with my favorite cologne.

    In addition it MUST

    Not contain menthol
    be alcohol based
not leave any sort of residue
    as "natural" as possible

It would also be quite helpful if it would be available locally.

You could try plain old Witch Hazel. What I have is 14% acl. It's available everywhere, and it's cheap if it does not work.

I'll second witch hazel. It doesn't meet all your criteria, but it's so cheap you really should try it. Fantastic stuff!

Another witch hazel fan (Thayer's makes some with alcohol that are labelled "Medicated" and some that are referred to as "Toners" that have no alcohol).

I too use Nivea but find that in the warmer months I like to go balmless. I am wed to this protocol that gives me great results: warm rinse to remove soap/creme, alum block rub, cold rinse, witch hazel, (sometimes while still wet with witch hazel I'll apply a small dose of Nivea...cut this way it readily absorbs and is not heavy), a splash of aftershave (real aftershave that disapates smell rapidly), spritz of eau d' toilete.

Sorry but cant help you with a real aftershave that is sans alcohol. Like you, interested in the recommendations.

I am actually looking for an alcohol based product. Last night I picked up Pinaud Clubman, Pinaud Bay Rum, and some Brut. I could not find whitch hazel anywhere in the store unfortunately. After getting out of the store and breaking the seals on the 3 products I found all of them to be almost offensive scents. I realize that they are "classics" but they scent absolutely does not dissipate at all and they are so simple and over powering that I will likely shove them in the back of the cabinet. I did use the clubman this morning just to try it out and am really happy with the results though sitting here still able to smell it hours later isn't doing anything for me. Avoiding menthol is the big thing for me. I wear Polo Black for a scent most often and find many things do not stack well with the pouchouli dry down.

There are many, many options and you could spend years trying new things. You might try Dominica Bay rum - I find it more refreshing, drier scented and "islandish" than many other BRs. Also, Speick is very mild, not too expensive and has a light scent.

What is your favorite cologne? Why do not you try it as an AS, too? I use a Hermes Cologne as an AS daily and it works just fine.

I use quite a few colognes in the end though Polo Black is my favorite. A single product that could be used with any of them is my preference.

I think I found my product. I went to bath and body works over lunch and looked over their CO Bigelow balms. They have all the goodies in them. Witch Hazel, shea butter, aloe, glycerine, along with alcohol and some other astringent ingredients. Elixir red smells very similar to the AOS sandalwood and elixir black is an agar wood, tonka bean, musk, vanilla scent. Right now they have a buy 1 get 1 free deal on those products for their june sale. There is an elixir blue that is a water scent and an elixir green that is a woodie/piney scent sorta like the original Polo cologne. The best part is that they have the matching colognes for the guys that wear it. I bought elixir red and black with the matching cologne and they rang them up so I for one cologne and one balm free so I saved $30 total.
