Cool, look whats up for bid on da bay...
This is an ad from 1928.

This all started because my mouthwash bottle looked out of place along side my vintage gear. I bought an 1880s Listerine bottle and I put my Listerine in there. All matches now. lol

This is really interesting. Back in the day when Listerine came in round glass bottles (but definitely after 1928 ;-)), I used it many times, not only as an aftershave but also as cleanser for my face. This is before the spread of medicated washes for acne. I was not aware that this was a suggested use by the manufacturer. I must say that it works well when used concentrated. The only problem I found is that it leaves the face somewhat sticky, particularly in hot and humid weather. I am not sure about the efficacy of the newer formulations or the benefits of the scent in the older formulation though ;-).

Well, I didn't notice the sticky feeling some report. The scent on the other hand may find fewer lovers than my Lilac Vegital. lol

    I won't be trying that.

Another use for listerine. It can be used on the face of your dog to rmove the odor left after it has been sprayed by a skunk. It doesn't get the smell out as well as some of the other remedies but it is safe to use around the mucous membranes, which the best skunk odor removers aren't.

Splashed a little Listerine on my arm like I would an aftershave and let it dry. Now I'm trying to get that stink off.

Sorry Ron, and maybe it's the medicine, but I didn't get it.

    Aloha!

Old thread but I just stumbled upon this Listerine for Aftershave ad from the UK and it didn't surprise me that there was already an old post about using Listerine as Aftershave here on SRP:

Original Listerine was made with Carboxylic acid. Very good disinfectant. Was originally used in surgery. New stuff, not so much. Main active ingrediant is Xylol, a type of alcohol.

I've read articles that suggested using Listerine as a treatment for dandruff and for athlete's foot.
