Default CF or Lucky Tiger preshaves: anyone used/like these?

Well after reading lots on the subject, I've determined that I could take my beard prep even farther. Currently I use soap and shampoo on my beard in the shower & really rub to remove oil--maximum hydration for softening. This helps a lot (beard averages 8/10 in toughness; tip of chin is 11/10!), but I'm thinking of trying pre-shave treatments as well.

I've never been tempted to try oils as it seems they'd just gunk up my brushes, but the CF is water based... Anyone noticed a difference?

I also read a thread over @ shavemyface describing the use of Lucky Tiger preshave (lemon something-or-other) w/ hot towels and that working well. Anyone tried this?

    Thanks to all.

Having never tried either of those, I can't comment at all- but you're on the right track with the prep in the shower. You could also buy a hair softening conditioner and use that on your beard while you shower.

I've used a pre-shave oil a handful of times and don't care for it much either. Another option that does not gunk up the brush is to find an olive oil based soap and use that. It seems you get the best of both worlds that way with the oil and not the mess.

    Thumbs up

Seems worth a shot. I'll try it. Probably I'll get the travel size CF on my next SRD order so I can try it out first w/o too much investment.

I too have tried neither, but also recommend hair conditioner. It works wonders. Go on, you're worth it!

    Awww, thanks!

Seriously though, any non-girly-smelling ones you'd recommend? And just as importantly, ones that wouldn't clog up a brush?

This morning I tried shampooing my beard w/ a washcloth--made a slight difference, methinks!

I leave it on for a couple of minutes, then wash it off. I don't mind the smells. They're nice & i feel pampered!

Local dollar store stuff works well as long as it says softening. Some conditioners strengthen hair, so you don't want that. I'm sure somebody even makes an unscented conditioner.
