Ready to try aftershaves
I have been shaving with a straight since April now and I am really enjoying it. I now have six razors in my rotation and a nice Tony Miller strop. I have several nice shave soaps, and a scuttle, although I have discovered that I prefer to face lather.
I have never used aftershaves and I would like to give them a try. I work in an engineering office and nobody wears any aftershave or cologne. It would not be welcome in our office. I would like to try something with a light subtle scent that would dissipate in an hour (that's how long it takes me to drive in to work each morning). My favorite soap scent is patchoulli, and my GF likes it, too.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I should start? I'd like to shop locally so I could smell before I buy.

GFT Skin Food, either Sandlewood, Coral or Lime might be a good start, all are subdued yet extremely effective.
Good luck.

Nivea extra sensitive.
Mmmmm.
If you want a splash, anything is good as long as you like the scent and burn. Splash is our friend, you cannot go wrong as long as you are splashing!

Lucky Tiger after shave and face tonic is another alternative you might consider. It soothes and leaves the skin feeling good (although YMMV) and the scent won't interfere with any edt or cologne you might use.

Thayers, Witch Hazel makes a great AS. Scent dissipates quickly however, for me if I apply it to my upper lip I smell it all day.

Brut is my favorite and the A/S doesn't last as long as the cologne. Can't go wrong with Aqua Velva either. Both have a little splash of menthol, which feels great after a shave.
If you like patchouli (me too), it may be worth your while to hunt E-bay for a small sample of a home made Patchouli A/S. Some of these little cstom makers come up with better products than the mainstream guys.

I would start with Bay Rum. Royall is very nice and subtle.

Aftershave lotions . . .
Gentlemen,
I would recommend three aftershaves for starters: Spanish Leather by Geo F Trumper, the classic English Leather by Dana, and Woods of Windsor.
All three have a clean, soapy overall fragrance, with notes of patchouli, neroli, bergamot and a few other delights. Worn lightly, the fragrances lingers throughout the day like a pleasant memory.
Regards,
Obie

I'll mention Osage Rub. It doesn't have much scent according to my wife and I don't get much either, but it sure is invigorating. Alcohol, menthol and eucalyptus are the main ingredients. I also like the Thayers products with alcohol in them. The scent doesn't last long. I use Thayers when my face is a bit dry.
