Great idea. I've never been one for anything stronger then aftershave. But this sounds like it could be a fun project. Thanks.

Thanked: 10I work for a giant health care company and the reason for the perfume mark up is that when you buy one 55 gallon drum the drum costs from 5-8k, and this is the stuff for deodorant. Perfumes for colognes and such are more concentrated so it costs more. Sounds like a fun expierment, making your own cologne. I may give it a spin.

There is a place in our local Mall that would add E.O. to products. It is called "The Body Shop". When they moved to a smaller location they may have discontinued the service but I will check the next time I'm in the Mall. Regardless of that, your curiosity and clear "recipie" are a great idea.
I just priced one of my favorite, and best (IMHO) Bay Rum's from Bonny Doon Farm here in Northern California. It's under their Meehan line (owners name) and runs $24.00 a 4oz bottle. Ummm $6 an ounce ...plus shipping.
Having some extra time on my hands (read laid-off), I think that with a little planning, making some very nice cologne in the kitchen shouldn't take but an hour or two, mess-up to clean-up.
Thanks for the post.Last edited by Redbeard; 01-20-2010 at 05:05 PM.

Thanked: 2This sounds like a fun project! I too have been put off by the outrageous prices of colognes and aftershaves. It would definitely be a huge addition to my grooming habits to put on a scent that I devised, especially one that I concocted myself! Thanks for the post!

Great post!
I'm also curious about the lasting power, as someone else mentioned earlier.

We've got a shop here in Portland called Essential Lotions & Oils. They carry the essential oils etc.(obviously) and custom make perfumes and such. They also make their own Shea butter and white tea shaving cream that they will custom scent for you. After reading this I have yet another reason to stop in and check out what they have on hand. Been meaning to get some of their shave cream for a while now but with my budget.........
