Thread: Dispensing Aftershave??

Good Morning Keith,
I agree with you completely..Balms should be in a squeeze type container..but this leads me to my next and continuing problem; There seem to be several types of Aftershave:
Aftershave, Aftershave Tonic, Aftershave Balm, Aftershave Milk, Aftershave Lotion.
By description from other fellas this is my understanding:
Aftershave- a true aftershave is used after the shave to disinfect, tone and tighten the pores, alcohol based, not scented...but could be, essential oils only--appropriate container ( PET bottle w/dispensing cap)
Aftershave- also seems to fall in the category of a light cologne, alcohol based, light scent..essential oils or fragrance -container (a nice heavy masculine glass w/small hole for shaking to dispense)
Aftershave Balm-Milk-Lotion- Still in the class of a true aftershave, with a diluted alcohol base of maybe 20% ...or maybe no alcohol, the base would be witch hazel, aloe vera... with added emollients for gents with sensitive or dry skin. --container ( a squeeze type or maybe something with a pump??)
Now Please feel free to chime in, At first these differences seemed a bit confusing to me. Am I on the right track?

Actually, there are two kinds of aftershave: Waterlike alcohol based one, and thick milkier one. For the first kind you can use tiny hole, open pour, Old Spice like bottle, for second one squeeze bottle is better...

Actually in my opinion who cares as long as it smells good.

LOL....O.K. I know some of these questions must seem pretty "dense" to put it nicely. The root of the question is based from a marketing/advertising point of view.
I formulate a product, decide what type of container it needs to go in, how the product will be dispensed...according to the thickness of the product, then I must also label the product correctly.
If you receive a balm-lotion aftershave in a container with a shaker type lid, labeled as an aftershave...you are not going to be a happy customer....
Sooo, I ask these seemingly pointless questions...but with a goal in mind. All of your suggestions and comments make a big difference in how I choose what goes with what...So just keep throwin em out there!
XXWarm Regards, Colleen

Thanked: 15Aftershave, I prefer open pour myself. For Edu au toilette or cologne, I prefer spay. Don't care for balms, just good ol alcohol aftershaves like BayRum. Who's your daddy?

I've been trying to stay away from alcohol based aftershaves, myself. Alcohol dries the skin somethin' awful.
Anyway - I'm not sure what the difference between an aftershave and an aftershave tonic is. Ultimately, as far as I know, the differences are: Watery (aftershave, and I assume tonic), slightly thicker than that (aftershave milk), and thick (balms).
I don't know if something like the coral skin food would fall into a category of "slimy" - they don't label it anything other than a "soothing preparation for after shaving." I would probably consider it a balm.
Generally, though, these are all "aftershave". Anything with a liquidy consistency can be in a splash bottle, though the fancy pinhole tops are only for the really watery kind of aftershave. Colognes go in a spray bottle or atomizer. I really do like the squeeze bottle for balms, because I hate hammering them against my hand to get some out. And you never get the right amount. And it makes a mess. Yuck.
Why do I feel like saying this means I'm just confusing matters further? I should be quiet now.
