I uploaded 8 pics and that's a PITA, so being lazy, check it out here...

Didn't know how many Penhaligon's fans we have here, but I thought some of you might like to see it.

Nice find Jeff. Was there anything in the bottle?

Yeah Ed, it's full. Well, 95% or so, as some of the contents has evaporated through the cork over time. It's never been opened that I can tell. The red wax seal on top of the cork is still mostly there. I'm trying to find a syringe so I can get some out to see what it smells like. Actually it's probably vinegar by now (or is that wine?), but just in case the curiosity has me. That way I figure I can re-seal the pinhole with a drop of superglue. I'd destroy the cork if I tried to remove it..

Thanked: 0"Sedative for the skin" A goodly proportion of some opium based substance, maybe?
A really cool find IMHO, and I'm not even much into aftershaves, unless we're going out someplace.
If I were trying for a sample, I think I'd use a very thin needle. Less chance of destroying the cork, and it's more likely the hole would be self-sealing?

Yeah Don I was thinking along those lines. Gotta come up with one though...I can't just go buy a syringe. Some guys over at SMF.com suggested the spinal tap type needles with the removeable core. Otherwise a normal syringe may plug on the way into the cork. Guess I could check at the vet...? Seems like too much trouble to me. I might just dig it out and put in the shaker top. I know it will evaporate from there more quickly, but oh well. Haven't decided yet. Either that or just go buy a rubber stopper and keep that in it.

Nenad, I would, but after 100 years I doubt it's still good. I'll probably just remove the cork anyway, my curiosity is getting the better of me ;-)

Thanked: 0I think that I'd send the pictures to Penhaligons for thier comments first. Before pulling the cork, I mean. They might make an offer that would be attactive. Of course, I can be a trifle mercenary about such things sometimes. Just something to think about?

Jeff, I'v just red your post on the smf forum. Congrats on opening the bottle! I bet it feels indeed like opening some nice 500$ bottle of wine...
It think it is still good to use, since no doubt it has plenty of alcohol in it, all the ingridients are preserved, and that "sedative for the skin" is no more than some Gillette school marketing trick. Or maybe couple of bay leaves...
Let us know how it works...

Don I thought about that, but I couldn't stand it. Had to see. It's still good, too! I have a bout 4 bottles of Penhaligon's on my wish list, maybe they would've made a swap, maybe not. Either way I wanted to keep this one. I'll get the others eventually.
