Default I'm a little worried about too many scents...

I am new to straight razor shaving, but have one minor concern...
I have Tabac shaving soap (which I can't use until my brush comes in the mail (which has taken over 3 weeks now (Thanks ebay!!!)))...
Anyways... I like the smell of the Tabac, but am soon probably going to add Thayer's witch hazel to my arsenal, as well as a pre-shave oil, and maybe an aftershave, and also I use a hair conditioner in the shower to help soften up the face....
So right now I am looking at about 5 different scents- all wonderful, but if I mix them together won't this be an undesirable aroma?
Maybe I am worrying about a non-issue, or maybe some scents aren't desinged to "stick out" long after a shave... and maybe these issues will work themselves out once I actually get a little experience.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

Well, there are two issues here: smell during shaving, and afterwards. Almost all shaving products I have tried so far lose their scent very much immediately after the shave (the two exceptions being two soaps from Italy and Germany).

Which leaves the smell during the shave. I use CF 'The Pre Shave', and then creams/soaps and ASBs that match (eg SRD and CF 'Lavender'). Problem solved.

When I review products, I usually use an unscented after shave treatment. That may also be an option.

    Regards,
    Robin

I agree with Robin. I don't think you need to worry about that. The Hair conditioner, Pre shave oil, Shave Cream scents will vanish rather quickly. Even the Witch Hazel. The scents that normally remain are AS and Colognes...Even those don't last. It helps as Robin stated to match your products, I.E. Shave Cream and AS Balm...

I agree with Robin and Zib. I use a variety of soaps, pre-shave stuff and post shave care and I dont notice the scents clashing. They dont last long and the only one that hangs around is the cologne you use!

These guys got the right idea as stated earlier most of those scents disappear quickly. Most of my AS however does leave the slightest hint of scent that lingers after a few hours. I would say find something you really like first, then worry about matching scents if you want the full experience and want to smell like that all day. Mine is Tabac, it's a love it or hate it and I really love the smell of it. Another good cologne that I feel bears the slightest similarity to Tabac (but it's really strong; you just need a little) is Geoffrey Beene's Grey Flannel. I don't use it that often (why waste it on work) but I really like it. It reminds me mostly of just the mixed scent of shave soap you get a whiff of when you walk by your shave den if you use mostly triple milled soaps.

I don't think you need to worry too much about having too many lingering scents. The last scent you apply, presumably your aftershave or cologne, will be the one that dominates. If you want to insure that it dominates, use the cologne version. Its scent will be stronger and longer lasting than aftershave.

If you truly do like the scent of Tabac soap go for the aftershave. Again though make sure you really like the scent, as Tabac is a love it or hate it scent. I personally love the soap and the aftershave, the AS is going to cost you a little more than a bottle of clubman or something like that, but you get a huge bottle of it and the bottle is nice and matches the Tabac bowl.
