Bay Rum
They use Bay Rum at the old fashioned barber shop where I get my hair cut. I was wondering if anyone else on the forums use this, and is there a definitive brand? Even the cheaper Clubman brand smells nice. But I see now that are many different brands of this same product. I was hoping some people would chime in with thier preferences.
Thanks in advance

Search the threads and you'll find thousands of posts. I would guess that more time has been spent discussing Bay Rum than any other product brand. And for good reason. It's great stuff. My own preference is Ogallala which you can find here: http://www.ogallalabayrum.com/ It's not inexpensive but it has a wonderful aroma, very different from Clubman. My one complaint is that the smell doesn't last very long.

Bay rum is a classic scent, and like many of these, it is a love-hate affair (you either love it or hate it). There are many threads about bay rums but perhaps the obligated reference is this one, it may help you decide: http://straightrazorpalace.com/presh...arade-atc.html
I am among the lovers, I made my first ay rum when I was a teenager. I have not found a single bay rum that I did not like but I like some more than others. Like with almost everything in life, you get what you pay for. The smell of inexpensive bay rums, likely those used in barber ships, lacks the complexity that comes from the essential oils. This is found in more expensive examples. My favorites are St. John's and Royall. I also like Dominica but the scent does not last long.

Yes there are many varieties of the stuff. The clubman isn't really bay rum more of a clove spice type scent. The Royall is generally considered to be at the top of the heap however if you go to the islands there are all kinds of manufacturers of the stuff with their own variations.
