I remember my dad smellling like Camel cigarettes, Lifebouy soap, Fitch shampoo, (Now theres an old one) and Aqua Velva.

That Fitch shampoo and hair tonic was great stuff. Brylcream blowed it off the road.

This returns me to the wonderful days of yesteryear!!!!

    Gentlemen:

I remember this line, too. Now my memory is starting to play with me, especially since I did not have my oatmeal this morning. I wonder which is the line English Leather used.

But then we're starting to get away from the original post's topic. Perhaps we can start another thread and get to the bottom of it. This is important stuff.

    Regards,
    Obie

I am partial to Yardley and Atkinsons lavender and various forms of bay rum. I also like 4711, Jean Marie Farina and other classics. I found this list of "famous perfumes and colognes" hat some of you may find pretty interesting, notice that Tabac made the list ;-). Obviously these lists tend to include some bias of the compiler. Famous Perfumes | Perfume & Cologne - Womens Perfume - Men Cologne

    Enjoy,

    Al raz.

One of my favorites is Old Spice (my father once said, way back when, he didn't even realize there WERE other scents besides Old Spice) but I was hoping to get some other recommendations on the classics that are still around or modern scents based on the classics.

Hope you can help, thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,

favourite vintage smells for me include brylcreem and old spice.. i would like to start exploring some others though.. i grew up in a house full of women who generally smelled of gin & tonics, 7 & 7s, or white russians.

+1 in my Dad's world there were only two fragrances on the market: English Leather (for Fall and Winter) and British Sterling (for Spring and Summer) These two have found permanent places in my rotation as they remind me of him. Other good bets:

Anything Pinaud Clubman (Yes even Lilac Vegetal)
    Aqua Velva
Murray and Lanman's Florida Water (this stuff absolutely rocks, cheap too)

I like the old fashioned stuff, and so does my wife. Of course I use Old Spice, because it's the main stay of the classics. Then I have a Bay Rum aftershave that's awesome. Mine is made by Stephan's. I also use Stephan's 320 which is a nice light scent similar to Skin Bracer, but way easier on your face. Plus, the Stephan's stuff is way cheap. Like 4 bucks for a 12oz bottle. I get it from a barber supply shop out of Williamsport PA. My wife likes the 320 the best. She runs around sniffing me all day after I've used it.

    Great stuff goin' on here!

Aside from online, do you people know shops that carry a lot of these (so I can sniff 'em)? Old-fashioned / well-stocked pharmacists? I am presently in England but will visit the United States a couple of times this year.

    Thanks again, boys!
