Thanked: 29Nivea Cooling vs $$$
I really like balms and dislike splashes for the most part. I use the Nivea Sensitive along with most of the Bath and Body Works line of balms but noticed with how humid it has been that feeling of having wet pork chops wrapped around your face all day with these so I went on a mission to find something better. I figured I would start cheap and go from there. My first purchase was Nivea Cooling. It has alchohol and menthol in it. I am not a huge fan of alchohol but in the heat and humidity the clensing of it is probably worthwhile. Menthol and I tend to not get along well but figured it would help that heavy feeling.
So first use... The second it hit my face I was on fire. For a split second I instantly envisioned the trash can. But then almost as fast as the thought entered my head it was gone and a very slight cooling took over. Not overpowering face freeze but just a bit more than enough to but the burn out. My face felt light, smooth, and cool all day with no irritation from the menthol. My skin is soft and not tight at all and feels great.
This bottle was $7. It makes me wonder why people spend 40, 50, 60, or even more on a bottle of aftershave that I can't imagine could actually be more effective.
So, if you do not use something similar to the nivea line why do you use what you use? Is it the scent(nivea is basically unscented in all their products)? Do you think it actually works better? Is it the brand name?
I'm curious of the reasons. If something is really that much better I am willing to try it out but don't want to pay $50 for something sub par to what I can buy at walgreens.

Thanked: 530I actually use Nivea for Men Replenishing Post Shave balm... 7 bucks a bottle, an almond-sized dollop will cover the whole face, and it works great. No oily feeling, no tightness, only the slightest burn when you put it on, then that vanishes.... Cheap, effective, commercially available

I use nivea now and then, but use mostly my own concoction, both because I can customize the scent and because I think it works better. I also have some other products that sting more I don't really mind it though. If I use a splash I usually finish with a balm or sometimes cornhuskers.

I have used both Nivea for Men Extreme and Sensitve up to now. No complaints. However, with the advent of summer I will be trying Thayers Witch Hazel w/ Aloe as an aftershave balm.

Thanked: 1903It certainly delivers good value for money, but I dislike the scent. My favourites are Edwin Jagger "Aloe Vera", and http://straightrazorpalace.com/after...have-balm.html.

What works for me.......
I too use Nivea from time to time.Soothing after shave balm. It leaves my skin a bit oily, and the fragrance hangs around too long, but it leaves my skin feeling great.
When it gets warm and humid, I use Proraso shave cream. It rocks and leaves my skin feeling great. Post shave I use strictly aloe vera gel. Top it off with Barclay Crocker vitamin E after shave balm. No alcohol and paraben free, with the essential oils and fragrance. It cools and soothes my skin and doesn't linger.
This is not an add, but what works for me, as I have sensitive skin as well.
The cost is minimal, and once you get the hang of fragrance and essential oils, you have what suit's you.
Kinda like the str8 shave. Gotta do what works for you and not necessarily works for some one else.

Nivea Cooling vs $$$
Gentlemen:
I have used Nivea balm off and on throughout the years. The modest price makes it worth every penny. Good stuff and such a deal.

I thought Nivea works pretty well, but I should try it again one of these days. It most certainly isn't unscented and while I don't dislike it I'm not a big fan either. I also use EdTs that cost in the $100-$200 range and the only thing I get out of them is smell.
It's pretty much the same with my food and drinks too. I pay significantly more to get stuff that basically smells better even though it functions the same as the much cheaper alternatives.

Niv works ok for me but
I've used Nivea with good results in the past, very affordable and easy to get. Lately I have been useing Thayers Alc. free witch hazel with Proraso's pre/post shave with what I feel for me is better results. IMHO! Both relatively affordable for my lowely income and my lady loves the scents!!
Just one more opinion, and its mine!!
As ever, tinkersd.
