They're all very high quality, complex scents, highly regarded in the fragrance world from what I gather. My wife likes me wearing Douro, Opus, and Castile. She's not crazy about Raquets, and neither am I. Reminds me of Hai Karate.

On the ladies side, they're all very nice. I bought her the 10-vial sampler and our favorites are Ellenesia, Artemesia, Bluebell, and Elizabethan Rose.

I'm very fond of Penhaligon's. They are all natural (unlike many of the today's mainstream colognes that are made with synthetic oils) and are very classic fragrances.

On the men's side, I particularly like the Hammam Bouquet (which has been around since before 1900), Blenheim and Opus 1870. Some of their fragrances don't last that long on me, in fact, some are so light I couldn't even smell them on me after 10 minutes (Douro, Racquets, Endymion). That may be just my nose but others I know have had the same issues. The 3 colognes that I mentioned first above are their stronger scents and will last all day on me.

My girlfriend likes their Ellenisia the best and she also likes Lily of the Valley, Lavandula, and Victorian Posy, but beyond that I've got no clue on the other women's ones. They do have some nice fragrances if your lady friend likes floral scents.

They offer a 10 vial sampler that has a mix of 5 of the mens and 5 of the womens fragrances for around $15. They have stores in Vegas, Los Angeles and New York and I believe that Saks 5th Avenue also stocks their products.

If you're close to one of those stores, I suggest you go and try them all otherwise you'll have to go the mailorder route. If you call the store and you're lucky, they might bend the rules a little and put together a men's or women's full range sampler for you, but don't count on it. It all depends on who you get on the phone. Try the Costa Mesa, CA store since I've visited them several times in person and they seem a bit more accomodating. I bought two of their 10 vial samplers and they were nice enough to put together a full range men's and women's set for me. They will do mail order from their stores too. Best of luck.

That's odd. Neither of the Bouquet's - Hammam or Blenheim, last long at all on me. Douro and Opus are good well until the evening, and Endymion just shy of that. English Fern is good until mid afternoon on me some days, until bedtime others. I think it depends on our own noses. Another factor for me is physical activity during the day. If I'm at my desk most of the day, they tend to last longer. I could probably smell Douro on you longer than you could, and vice-versa with one of the Bouquets. My guess is they are still there, only we don't realize it ourselves ...?

As for the 10-vial samplers specifically for men or women, I believe these are normally available around the holidays. If you haven't tried one of their shaving creams or soaps, do so. They are fantastic.

    RT,

Thanks for the link. Some of the items were sold out, but the Christmas 10 fragrance men's sampler is still available so I ordered one. $18 shipped from NYC.

    Threeputt,

I'm not surprised that the scents you can smell are different. I think you're right, it's my nose. I really like Douro too, but I can't smell it and neither can my girlfriend. Maybe living here in LA with all the smog does something to your ability to smell.

I do plan on trying their shaving creams. I've heard others also recommend them.

I received a package of complimentary samples from Penhaligon's yesterday. The sample vials are probably the most generous I've seen. They sent me Opus 1870, Endymion, Blenheim Bouquet, and English Fern.

I'm wearing the Opus today. I put it on at 7:45 this morning and can still easily find it on my person nearly eight hours later. I think a spray applicator would do wonders, but this has some staying power on me. I'm pleased. Can't wait to try the other samples!
