i have old man chemistry
so i stopped at a parfumie kiosk at the mall and asked to try tabac.. (i had never used it.. or even knew what it smelled like)
the man sprayed some on my left forearm and before i could even smell it.. he said.. "not for you.. you are a young man.. this is an old man smell and your body chemistry isn't right"... so i gave it a whiff and to be honest.. i didn't really care for it.. i asked him what i should be wearing.. as a young man that is.. so he sprays my right forearm with perry ellis red.. now i have to say.. the stuff smelled like a victorias secret body spray.. it was fruity and just off putting.. i would never wear that... it seriously smelled like a 7th grade girl..
i may only be 29 years old.. but i prefer my old spice and bay rum..
what else do you guys suggest for my old man nose?

Who designates something as 'old man'? Just because something was used 80-100 years ago doesn't mean that it makes you smell like an old man. More than likely, these scents get black balled is because, like comfort food it gets associated with someone's grandpa and is automatically poo-pooed. Case in point, my wife won't let me wear Old Spice because it reminds her of her late grandpa that died a few years ago from cancer...the scent is very off-putting. Now on the other hand, she doesn't have a problem with Clubman that she has no mental affiliation with. It's all in folks head what they like and don't like. I recommend wearing what you like and if someone tells you that you smell like an old man, just tell them that it's so retro that it's avant garde.

i do love the clubman.. but it seems to clash a little with my other scents.. i do thoroughly enjoy the vanilla clubman though..
i think what the man was trying to say is that my body chemistry was that of a young man and in order for tabac to smell good.. i had to age appropriately.. a bunch of malarky if you ask me.. i'll just continue wearing what i want.. i refuse to smell like a fruit basket just cause that's what men my age are supposed to smell like.. i'd rather smell like a man who lived when men wear men anyway.

Yea I have a couple of bottles of Lilac Vegetal around the house. I used it to get rid of a pesky skunk that kept visiting. A few drops of that and he swore never to return ever again. A tablespoon would have killed him dead.
Most stores have folks doing sales guided by Madison Avenue especially fashion type stuff and to most youngins it's important to have the right kind of everything to matter what it is. Of course some of us have our own opinions as to what we like.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I think people are just afraid to tell me to my face that they hate what I wear.
Works great!

Thanked: 23I strongly doubt that the sales person in question has any idea as to what chemistry even is, much less any real insight into your particular skin chemistry. In any event, why do you care what someone else thinks. wear what you like.
